“This whole time I’ve meant nothing to you?” he stares down at her, the mournful look in his eyes shrinking her until she feels about a foot tall.

“You never meant nothing to me.” Aria says quietly, shifting on her feet as if trying to steady herself. She’s looking at the floor now, unable to look him in the eye. And yet he won’t let her- he reaches out and places two fingertips beneath her chin, gently tilting her face upward. For a moment she’s hopeful- a different emotion flickers across his grim face, something that makes her think of better times.

“Liar.” he suddenly whispers, the harshness of his tone filling her ears and creeping down into her pounding heart. It feels like a century passes as they stand there, frozen, wishing for words that should never be uttered. Then in an instant he’s gone, leaving behind only the faintest traces of his skin on hers and a drifting memory of thunder and lightning.
